I have lived on the Waterside for 20 years. All four of my boys have grown up here and attended local schools. My wife is a former Chair of Governors at Hythe Primary School. I have been an Assistant Cub Scout Leader locally and now assist in some local fundraising for our Sea Scouts.
Before moving to Hampshire to take up the position of Head of Communications at the Maritime & Coastguard Agency in Southampton, I lived in Berkshire where I was elected as both a Town and County Councillor, so am quite familiar with the workings of local government.
Formerly a radio journalist and presenter with stints on stations in the UK and across Europe, I came back to the UK in the early 80s when the opportunity arose to open a record shop, which was closely followed by six more and which provided some interesting challenges, and great music throughout the 80s! Sadly by the early 90s the huge hike in interest rates had killed off a lot of similar shops and, using my journalistic skills I then worked in London in various Government press offices for Ministers and also for a short while in the Press Office at No. 10.
After leaving Government service I worked for a while at a major defence contractor on the wider use of social media in areas of conflict and finally decided to go back to running my own business again when Navigate Response was set up.
I travel extensively both here and abroad delivering training, overseeing large exercises, and of course handling the ever present media for clients if one of their ships or assets has some sort of accident or incident, so life is always busy!
My main issues are affordable housing for young people, public transport and maintaining the quality of life here which attracts so many people to our great community!
If you have any issues or casework, please do not hesitate to contact me.
