Minutes:

The reports from the Civil Society Conference, Tenterden & District Chamber of Commerce, Tenterden Leisure Centre Trust and Tenterden Area Cycling Strategy Steering Group were NOTED.

(a)         Helping in Tenterden.  Cllr. Mrs Ferguson provided a report on Helping in Tenterden (HIT) where she relayed that 670 ‘missions’ have been carried out, mostly collecting prescriptions,  with shopping a close second. The Food Bank is loosely associated with HIT and all enquiries are passed to Mrs. E. Isworth, Canon L. Hammond and Reverend J. Kennett.  Cllr. Mrs. Ferguson thanked Mr. Avena from Moretto’s for donating a  freezer and The Brissenden Trust for donating an upright fridge, so that perishable foods can now be donated as well.   Cllr. Mrs. Ferguson also thanked the volunteer furloughed chef who is making meals from donated food, and Waitrose for their food donations.

Cllr. Mrs. Walder reported that the £1,000 she had donated from her ABC Members Grant to the Food Bank would be used up quite soon, as people who had not required food boxes at the start of lockdown now do.  Cllr. Knowles reported that he would organise a donation from his ABC Members Grant as well.  Cllr. Mrs Ferguson commented that peoples situations are very different now from what they were at the beginning. There are procedures to go through when someone asks for help and questions have to be asked carefully.

Cllr. Knowles asked how many people on the Ashford Food Bank list are from Tenterden. The Town Clerk reported that Mrs. Isworth is the local representative of the Family Food Bank, but the Town Council is not party to the numbers of people in Tenterden who receive the food boxes.  There is also the Government initiative for ‘shielded’ residents and distribution is controlled by ABC. Cllr. Mrs. Walder commented that we do not know who is on the list therefore we are not sure if anyone is being missed.

Cllr. Carter asked what the allocation of money is towards the Food Bank by the Town Council; the Town Clerk advised that there is still £2,000 available in the agreed emergency funds and he will liaise with Mrs. Isworth as to whether this needs to be released to the Food Bank.

Cllr. Mrs. Ferguson commented that Homewood School are covering the children that are entitled to free school meals. Cllr. Carter reported that Homewood have not yet had the money through from the Government therefore this is fully funded by the School at the moment.

Cllr. Mrs. Walder commented that families are being given vouchers to spend in supermarkets but some are not being accepted as the barcodes are poorly printed.

(b)         Ashford Citizens Advice.  Cllr. Mulholland provided an update on Ashford Citizens Advice.  He said they have been struggling with the new technology and also the Chairman had resigned.  The Advice Bureau is continuing to operate using telephone and email, with their first Zoom meeting booked for Wednesday night. The Charity is not working from the Town Hall at the  ...  view the full minutes text for item 3383.
